Technology changes every day and assuredly, each new development within communications will have affects on others. The question is: how will the new GPRS systems for telephones relate to online casinos and internet gambling?

GPRS stands for General Packet Radio Service and basically, it is the new non-voice-related technology going into cell phone production that communicates data transfer being sent between networks. This new system will allow for information to be sent three times faster than the information broadcasts over fixed telecommunications networks, and ten times faster than the GSM current network for mobile communication. GPRS will bring, simply, efficient and usable internet to your cell phone.

Representative for Siemens Asia Pacific, as vice-president of their mobile devices division, had little to contribute when asked about the effects of GPRS on internet gambling. He stated that there were three segments to stimulating mobile entertainment: voice communications (phone calls), exchange of files and info (use of emails, calendars, instant messages, etc) and thirdly, “Pure entertainment: games, music and online gambling.”

Thankfully, it doesn’t seem that the new technology will increase costs as much as gamblers might fear. Because it is only used during data transmissions, the second and third segments, it helps keeps costs down. But the effects may be noticeable. Online transactions that need to occur as close to real-time as possible, such as credit card approvals, will be dealt with instantly, comparable to the service you receive at home, allowing for more secure transactions.
The GPRS devices will come ready to play: they are structured to be Java, WAP, and HTML compatible, so there will be little to no mis-translation between your favorite sites and your new phone. You can play your games on the go, just as you would at home.
