Despite bans in the US against online casinos, lawmakers don’t seem as concerned with reigning in land-based casinos. Ohio recently approved a petition to begin making the rounds among the counties in an attempt to put in the works a project that would result in a $600 million casino.

The initiative was concluded by Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann, who summarized that the proposal was a “fair and truthful statement” of the project they hope to vote into existence.

The program is being sponsored by MyOhioNow.com, whose drive for signatures began Friday, has to gather 402,000 signatures by August of 2008 to get the proposal on the ballots for November 4, 2008.
If it makes it that far, Ohio-ans will have the chance to vote on whether they would like to have built a $600,000,000 (geez, that’s a lot of zeros) casino/resort destitation off the I-71, at State Route 73. The area chosen for the site is centralized between the Dayton/Columbus/Cincinnati aread in Clinton County. The proposal includes for the resort and casino to employ nearly 5,000 Ohio-ans and the plan expects to create $200 million in tax revenues. The profits will be divided among the state’s 88 counties on a per capita basis.

The state-sanctioned website did offer commentary to accompany the effort. MyOhioNow.com partner Dr. Bradford A Pressman said they planned not only on achieving the necessary signatures in the 44 counties required by law, but to surpass the condition by taking the initiative to over 70 of the state’s counties. “We plan on reaching all Ohio voters to demonstrate that our vision of a $600 million resort/casino will be a win-win for all Ohio-ans.”

Another representative from MyOhioNow.com, Mr. Rick Lertzman emphasized the efforts put into getting this casino the right way by being in accordance with all the state’s legislatures. “.It is important to have this issue for one casino in Ohio to be a plan that will resonate as a fair plan for all of Ohio voters. This is the first step in a long road to win the support of Ohio voters on November 4, 2008.”
