Online poker is the most popular game to play on the internet. The game sees million of players from beginners to experts to casual gamers sign on to play poker. Out of the entire different poker variations Texas Hold ‘em is by far considered to be the favorite. All gambling sites security keeps track of how many players are playing at one time. This allows them to watch out for anyone attempting to illegally turn the tide of the game in their favor. Recently, one of the online securities recorded the highest number of players gambling online on one site at one time. Last week with over 20,000 players participated simultaneously, a new world record. 20,386 poker players took part on a site at one time, the first instance where the number of simultaneous online players has topped 20,000. The last two weeks of December had seen a dramatic increase of online players jumping from 16,960, the previous record in 2006, to 19,900. Analysts have not found any clear indications as to why thousands of people decided to jump on to the online poker bandwagon. The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) was designed to curb online gambling in the US by banning financial transactions. Apart from fierce opposition from gambling companies and senators with opposing views, this act has apparently been an excruciating waste of time. In the year since the law was passed, both privately held poker sites have more than doubled in size. Maybe foreign countries that originally pulled their sites from American gamblers will open up their doors to us once again. Especially with the way these numbers are rising. |
