Online gambling is a part of many Americans’ lives; whether the sites are based overseas or not doesn’t seem to matter. But it remains that internet casinos are illegal in the United States and some would like to change. Especially those who have reaped the benefits of regulated gambling for years successfully- like those living in Nevada. The University of Las Vegas has recently been commissioned to do a study on online gambling, its pros, cons and hopefully, to be able to establish a reasonable estimate as to how much support the industry has among Americans. Or at least Nevadians. The University will be basing the study on just those objectives- attacking the project with the intent of measuring the effects of online gambling. The results could be taken into direct consideration as the lawmakers approach considering legalizing online casinos once more. The bulk of the study will be on distinguishing the number of Nevadians, and those living in Las Vegas, specifically, that gamble online, where their money is spent, and polling attitudes and opinions on the industry. As the study is being commissioned by the State’s Gaming Control Board, the results are especially potent. The Gaming Board in Nevada is no stranger to proving their point and this time is no different. UNLV students are preparing to collect data on both the advantages, and the risks of gambling being regulated online. There are many whose opinions are already set in stone: Tony Cabot, a Gaming Attorney in Las Vegas feels it’s time. “It's historically been the policy of the state of Nevada to regulate gaming so that we can protect patrons and make sure they get paid when they win.” He went on to say that the study may be that final concrete evidence needed to push legalization into the market for serious consideration. |
